The Capacities Crisis
The education system of the last 100 years will not prepare kids for the complex modern economy of the next 100 years.
We're in a capacities crisis, a time when our capabilities (individually and societally) can’t meet the complex demands of the challenges we face.
The way we learn is broken. In fact, it’s been broken for a long time now. Personal computers, the internet and economic forces have caused an unprecedented shift in the shape of education. We hoped that having the world's knowledge at our fingertips would usher in a golden age of learning. However learning online and in person is far from optimal. Humanity's latent potential is being undermined.
But we believe there's a better way to think about how we prepare the next generation to take the lead
— a model that's personalised, experience based and societally beneficial. One which draws out the best in each learner to provide them with economic opportunity, the space to reflect on what kind of person they would like to be and how they want to contribute to their community.
The skills and wisdom gap we’ll face is too large to be solved with just schools and universities on our education system blueprint.
We're putting new places of learning on the map and unlocking new ways of navigating knowledge. A single app and portal for connecting learning that take place anywhere, anytime a young person needs it.
At City as a School, our ecosystem of diverse learning providers, tools and mentors are built on the belief that, young self determined minds are the key to overcoming the shortcomings of older generations.
